The second in an ongoing series of tapes documenting the varied live formations of Stefan Christensen’s musical world. Side A was recorded towards the end of Christensen’s 2019 US tour. The intimate show at Rochester’s Liquor Store was the perfect venue for Christensen to deliver his, by this point in tour, well honed solo set. Beautifully recorded by Chris Reeg, the set is dynamic and intense and sees Christensen working with cassettes, reel-to-reel, guitar and just a touch of vocals. Side B was recorded shortly before the aforementioned tour at State House in New Haven, opening for Egypt’s Nadah El Shazley. This set is split in two parts; opening with manipulated tape reels that eventually find their grounding in one of Christensen’s oldest solo tunes, and then shifting gears as he is joined on stage by Ian McColm (Center, Heart Of The Ghost) on drums and David Shapiro (Alexander, Center, Headroom) on lead guitar. As a trio the band starts with the ramshackle “8AM Sharp,” before moving into “Unknown Fortune” opening track “Displacement.” The closing number truly soars as the band shows their affinity for the noisiest side of Crazy Horse. Limited to 50 copies.
